The MiG fighter, its past and its future. Infographics
On December 8, 2009, the Office of Russian design "Mikoyan" celebrated its 70th anniversary. This is where the famous MiG born enjoying great acceptance worldwide.

The design bureau "Mikoyan" created a whole new generation of jet fighters with even before the end of World War II. The premiere of the jet fighter aircraft, MiG-9, was held on April 24, 1946. It was the first turboprop unit that received the Soviet Air Force. The MiG is earned worldwide fame with the appearance of the following model, legendary MiG-15 aircraft, which for more than 50 years was in the arsenals of many countries. It had three guns and could develop high speed and move in the vertical and horizontal planes. MiG-15 became the principal tactical fighter aviation of the USSR and its allies.

MiG-15 showed excellent characteristics during the Korean War of 1950-1953. Pilots MiG-15 fighters used by the Army Air China, North Korea and the USSR, broke down in the war about 1,400 planes in the U.S. and its allies against the 566 MiG shot down.

It would be suggestive to point out that the Russians removed some 1100 enemy aircraft, losing 335 aircraft and 120 pilots.

MiG-15 was the most widely used jet fighter in the world. The company "Mikoyan" produced over 15,000 aircraft of this type that were in the arsenals of several countries for many decades. Albanian Air Force MiG-15 dropped the operational service in 2005 alone.

At the end of the Korean War, appeared upgraded models. MiG-15 and its successors, MiG-17 and MiG-19, were the main weapon that protected the skies of USSR in the 50s, to the deployment of air defense missiles.

The availability of a large number of MiG , which gave proof of its effectiveness in the heavy fighting, became a major deterrent in a time when the USSR was only phase of atomic weapons, and the range of Russian bombers not allowed to reach USA. U.S. strategists were aware that the strategic bombers would suffer heavy losses to not having coverage of fighters in the skies of USSR and Eastern Europe. In addition, a blow with the use of atomic weapons could not cause irreparable damage to the Soviet Union.

MiG-21 appeared before the public for the first time in 1958 and began mass-produced in 1959. It is supplied with the Russian air force to this day. The MiG-23, MiG-25, MiG-27 and MiG-31 are still in operational service. MiG-29 now regained a second wind. Following extensive modernization, became MiG-35.

The trials of these devices made by the NATO Air Force showed the superiority of the MiG-29 compared to similar foreign models. The MiG outperform their rivals both in a dogfight at close range, where Russian aircraft have always had an advantage, as in the case of medium-range missile (a distance of 20-30 km).

The design bureau "Mikoyan" went through a difficult period after the collapse of the USSR.

Fortunately, the situation improved. Older versions appliances undergo modernization to be used by the Air Force from Russia and other countries.

"Mikoyan" saw its order book increase and, thanks to investments designed MiG-35 which has good market prospects, as experts. The company is also designing MiG fifth generation fighter is expected to incorporate in the arsenals over the next decade.
