A terror suspect shot dead in Thakurganj near Lucknow named Saifullah and five other men arrested in Kanpur and Madhya Pradesh were a new cell of the terror group ISIS and were planning a "major attack" within a month, said investigators to NDTV today, asking not to be named because of the sensitivity of the information provided. They said the group organised an explosion on a train yesterday as "practice" for a possible terror strike on a Sufi shrine in Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.

The alleged ISIS group has a total of nine members, all from Lucknow and Kanpur, said sources in the country's top counter-terror body, the National Investigation Agency or NIA. Saifullah was killed yesterday in a house in Lucknow that the cell had rented a few months ago from the owner who works in the Middle East. For 12 hours, commandos tried to capture him alive. He refused to surrender. The Anti-Terror Squad finally blew holes into the walls of his room and entered the area. An ISIS flag and a timetable for trains was found near his body.

The head of the group has been identified as Atif Muzzaffar, who was among three men arrested in Madhya Pradesh yesterday. They were caught after CCTV footage linked them to an explosion last morning on a train that had left Bhopal for Ujjain. Nine people were injured in that blast.

The men were interrogated and the information they allegedly revealed led to locating Saifullah and two other men who were picked up by the police in Kanpur. All the men arrested so far are Muslim and in their 20s.

Sources in the NIA, which has sent teams to Bhopal and Lucknow, said the terror cell had three suppliers of weapons. Saifullah was found with eight pistols and a stockpile of ammunition.

Good work by local anti terror squads, they really seem to be on the ball these days. Ideally though there would be a more intergrated approach and an over-arching federal policy, local ATS and intel units should be networked with the federal agencies such as NRTO, CBI, R&AW and IB and NIA should be actively going after these terrorists wherever they may pop up. Right now it is very ad-hoc. I hope the NCTC will be looked at again, even though Modi himself had opposed it during his time as CM.

It's good work no doubt.. but is it really ISIS? IMHO ISIS activities in India is much more minor but seems ISI might have found new flag to continue its activities

the ISIS has definitely seeped into the Indian radical youth scene. Kerala and BD are the hotbeds (the first ISIS flag was flown in India in kerala). they were quick to join the bandwagon of the caliphate. of course the ISI might/will take advantage and provide logistics, economic and training support to these people since their target is same - an alignment of interests of sorts. to say the ISI and ISIS will act on separate paths is probably not correct.

But it will help if we identify the acts as "ISIS" based instead of ISI based since ISIS has a greater resonance across the Intl community (and hence, we get greater support) while claiming this to be an act of ISI will not get as much support.

At least after bring out religious reforms...

Tough call.. But should be initiated at least..

All religious teaching centres should be employed by government faculties.

I don't want to specifically target Muslims, I don't think any other community would object to this as well..

    For a harmonious living , it's must..
Bring out the positives of all religions.

My ancestral temple administration had been taken over by the government after it became economically well off..

Few schemes like free food for 50 persons daily has been started.

For anyone birthday or anniversary, they can sponsor a breakfast or lunch for 1500 rp ..

Why not government take over all religious centres ?
Why not they make code of conduct?
Why not they abolish or introduce new practice in religion for the harmony?

If I recall , long custom animal sacrifice has been banned inside temple ..
No one except few opposed this, since intended meaning was well accepted.
I think if government takes baby steps in this regard ... People will accept.

Disoriented youth harbour ideologies which are extreme. That suits their psychopathic mindset. At present ISIS is the flavour. Hence they are attracted towards it. The sleeper cells are always on the lookout for such persons and they fuel the fire.

No offence meant but why is it so that almost always the terrorists all over are muslims except a few exceptions. Even Vajpayeeji once said in parliament "Har Musalman atankwadi nahi hota par har atankwadi Musalman hi kyo hota hai"?

Again no offence intended against Muslims. I even asked this question to some of my muslim friends. They said the main reason is poverty. I don't agree with them.

There is a high possibility of ISI of Pakistan using ISIS name to avoid world pressure brought upon by present Indian govt. Carrying out terrorist activities and diverting blame on ISIS could be the obvious way out designed by Pakistan so even if India blames Pakistan it could easily divert it to ISIS and put India on back foot. Our Intelligence Agencies will have to work vigilantly to expose this angle if it is the case.

    I think it's quite obvious ..
Kashmiri fighting for azadi should raise Kashmir flag, why would they raise Pakistani flag or Isis ? They have been twisted in their mind so much ..they can't even realize it.

Why would Muslims in Kerala or other states India follow Isis ?
Don't they realize after their actions , their family have to live through here ?
Why don't they cooperate among themselves and make a strong living instead of suicide bombing people..

It's quite obvious their mind got twisted .. And their atmosphere is quite conducive to that.

The problems lie in the origins of Islam. The journey of their Prophet can be described as consisting of 2 different phases -

    - the first phase involved the revelation of Islam to him & later by him to his immediate family , his extended family , his friends , the neighbourhood & his tribe the Koresh. This led to his ostracization , the persecution of him & his small band of followers , his flight from Mecca to Yathrib ( Medina ) - the hijra, his acceptance by the local populace there who were more forthcoming to the teachings of the new religion .This phase is more about the philosopher side to the prophet .His teachings & personal conduct were conciliatory , peaceful , compassionate , forgiving ,more Catholic in outlook actually - an all encompassing vision for the little closely knit community of which he was the leader.

The second phase commences with his triumphal conquest of Mecca , the destruction of all the idols of his tribe the Koresh & their acceptance of Islam as their religion .With the largest & most influential tribe converted to his cause , the philosopher prophet saw an evolution / metamorphoses to the conqueror prophet .To condense a lengthy history into a few sentences , he sent expeditions forth all across modern day arabia inviting other Arabian tribes to convert to Islam or join battle with his forces .On the one hand lay all the goodies that the spoils of war brought - loot , slaves , women , etc . & On the other lay death if they couldn't prevail upon the Muslims .It's easy to see where their allegiances lay.Tribes who battled the Prophet were made examples of in much the same way the Daesh condemns their opponents to death .

A quick & remarkable series of successful conquests saw him send letters to the super powers of the day - the Persian & the Byzantine kings to accept Islam or join battle with him .His followed succeeded where death interrupted him conquering the Persians & permanently damaging the Byzantines.

Interestingly the entire philosophy of the Daesh including the distribution of spoils of war , their mode of administration , their brutal modes of punishment one reads or sees is from the second phase of the prophet & that of the Rashid un ( the first 4 rightly guided Caliphs ) universally accepted by all Sunnis

There in lies the dichotomy at the heart of Islam , now causing such discord as it does exist today across the ME & much of the Islamic world .

If you were to read Islamic scholars particularly from Saudi Arabia on the Daesh it's painfully split between those - who call them the Khariji after a sect with an extremely narrow & severe interpretation of Islam which died out a few centuries after the Prophet & caused immense grief to his successors in the time they were active (mostly the state sponsored mullahs ) & to those who endorse the Daesh as keepers of true Islam (not so openly these days ) .

The condemnation of the Daesh comes from more liberal traditions of Islam, mostly outside of Arabia except the Kurds who have their own agenda & obviously the Shia's apart from a few Arab governments who don't share the Wahabbi view of Islam like Jordan .

The Al Saud family along with their allies , the royal families of the UAE , the Qatari royal family & those of Bahrain & Kuwait have long perfected the art of getting rid of radicals by sponsoring them & then generating another set of radicals to combat the first set .They've Been doing this with gay abandon since the past 3 decades .That's how they've survived & preserved their monarchies .

It's this set of teachings which traces it's origins to Ibn Taymiyyah in the 12 - 13th century , later ressurected by Abd Al Wahab who found his patron in the Al Sauds of Najd which marks the beginnings of Wahabbism / Salafism in the Arabia in the 18 th century .Co incidentally around this time , a person called Sayyed Ahmed Barelvi declared jihad in India ( alarmed at the loss of power ,wealth & prestige of the Mughal Empire & by extension the Muslims to non Muslims ,) upon the rising Sikhs headed by Ranjit Singh in what's now Khyber Paktoonwa by gathering his loyal band of followers mostly from Delhi & what's now UP & surrounding areas in alliance with local Pashtun tribes till the alliance came apart & he perished along with his followers.

His ideas survived him just as Abd Al Wahab's survived him only to continue into the 21 st century manifesting itself into the Al Qaeda's & Daesh's of our age apart from the Salafis, the Deobandi , the Muslim Brotherhood , the Tablighis , Ahl e Hadith's , etc .all different strands of the same thought process .

the "taking over of the temple by the govt" is only applicable for Hindu temples. This is blatant violation of our secular ethos. either govt should take over ALL religious institutions or it should not interfere in ANY.

the Muslim community is having a hard time in rejecting the triple talaq. they regard their "customs" and "mosques" as places higher than the country and outside the purview of the legal/constitutional authority. thats how they live and thats how they have blackmailed the people. Tell me I am wrong here.

    off topic
the Chilkur Balaji temple in Hyderabad started a movement for this in their magazine called "VAK" (VAK can be expanded to mean "Vimana Archana Kalpa", which refers to a traditional treatise of Vikanasa Agama Sastra, written by Marichi. Incidentally, the word VAK in Sanskrit, means VOICE.)
here is a sample of their magazine:

Majority of Muslims too dont like this cancer ,though I think they are more strict followers of religion compared to us. Its govt lackluster attitude + political appeasement policies + political correctness of media that is fueling the fire.
Why can't we call spade a spade irrespective of his/religion.
Any and everyone who try to spread hate be it a Maulana from WB or a yogi and Sadhu from UP , lockem up for a couple of months with heavy fines plus warning. No bias to any one
