Russia and India are developing an advanced joint multi-role military and transport aircraft MTA, the head of the Russian delegation at 10th international aviation and space exhibition Aero India 2015 told journalists in Bangalore on Wednesday.

“During the fulfillment of the project on the joint development of the multi-purpose transport aircraft, the Russian and Indian engineers completed the aircraft’s design feasibility phase,” Anatoly Punchuk said.

The results of the aircraft’s preliminary design study are “in the final stage of being assessed by India’s Air Force,” he told journalists at India’s main defense and civil-aviation event, which runs through February 20.

Russia and India have been cooperating fruitfully in the military-technical sphere. Since 1960, Russia has supplied to India arms and military equipment worth about $40 billion, Punchuk said.

Spain Defence Minister Pedro Morenes Eulate is in India on a 2-day visit, slated to meet Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar the three service Chiefs and even NSA Ajit Doval.

Spain has proposed to the Indian govt that Avro replacement deal for the Indian Air Force for 56 Avro transport planes, for which the Spanish Casa 295 has been shortlisted , after it emerged single vendor, be converted to a Govt-to-Govt contract, rather than cancelling the RFP and going for a fresh tender.

Morenes said this morning about the new Indian govt that,"I find there is a new enthusiasm, and a new attitude, an idea to do something new and important , in the new Indian govt, which is good. Building of trust is very important in defence cooperation"

Spain and India will sign a deal under which there will be a commitment to protect sharing of classified information , by both countries.

L&T and Navantia of Spain have entered into a joint venture for naval projects, like the ongoing LPD, for which the prime contractor is L&T and Navantia is the sub-contractor, chosen by L&T, as its partner. Other future projects coming up are OPVs for the Indian Navy.

Other areas of interest for Spain, which will come up in talks are Cyber, outer space, technologies to be shared in deals of the army, navy and airforce.

Spain has also shown interest in the mountain warfare techniques of the Indian Army, for which it has asked India to train the Spanish army, as Spain is the second highest country (altitude-wise) in Europe, after Switzerland, "India has good military capability in the mountains", said Morenes.

IAF Clears Proposal to Buy Three C 17; Boeing Says Only One Plane Left (excerpt)
(Source: Economic Times; published Aug 17, 2015)
NEW DELHI --- The Indian Air Force appears to have taken too long to push through a Rs 8,100 crore proposal to buy three new Boeing C-17 transport aircraft. The American manufacturer simply does not have that many aircraft to sell anymore, having pledged four of the last five C-17s in its production line to Qatar.

After months of efforts, the air force, at a Services Capital Acquisition Plan meeting on July 31, managed to push through the proposal to add three aircraft to its existing fleet of 10 Boeing C-17s that were ordered in 2011. Officials said the proposal is likely to be taken up by the high powered Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) shortly.

However, Boeing officials have gone on record to say that after signing the contract with Qatar the company is left with just one C-17 for sale. With its production facility for the aircraft at Long Beach in shut-down mode, the company has already halted the production line. (end of excerpt)

O'h dear looks like another own goal for India, is nothing ever going to change.

US Air Force has 10 planes in reserves as they do not need it. We can buy those 10 anytime we need.

You just cannot be told anything can you, this is the major weakness of you and your country, you cannot accept that you could have made a mistake. Everything you do is correct even when wrong.
The production line has finished, any aircraft the US has in reserve will in fact be used by the US for any attrition in the current C17 fleet. They will not be sold to India or any other country.

So no, you cannot buy them any time you want. Why the hell do you think remaining ones off the production line, were snapped up by countries that were able to take decisions in a timely manner.

What a goof up if true. What was MoD thinking? Now, what? IL-476?

There was news that Apache and Chinook costs will increase if a decision on them was not taken soon, by July 31st. Wonder if the prices have increased since there has been no decision.
