Lockheed Reveals C-130J-SOF for International Partners
    Jun 20, 2017 ShowNews
    [IMG]

Lockheed Martin introduced a new variant of the C-130J Super Hercules configured for international military special operations missions, called the C-130J-SOF.

The new multi-mission aircraft is designed to meet the unique demands of special operations forces (SOF) around the world, said Tony Frese, company vice president of business development for air mobility and maritime missions.

U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) already operates the MC-130J and AC-130J gunship for U.S. SOF missions, but this is the first time Lockheed is offering a SOF variant of the C-130J for export.

The C-130J-SOF will provide international partners the capability to do crucial SOF missions such as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR); airdrop resupply; personnel recovery; humanitarian relief; infiltration; exfiltration; and resupply of SOF personnel, said Frese. The new variant can also be configured for armed overwatch by adding special mission equipment options such as a 30-mm gun and Hellfire missiles, helicopter/fighter/vertical lift aerial refueling, and Forward Area Refueling Point operations.

The Super Hercules airframe’s “inherent versatility” gives it the capability to support a broad spectrum of military operations, including international SOF, said Orlando Carvalho, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

“As our global partners face increasing and evolving threats that transcend borders, they want a proven solution,” Carvalho said. “The C-130J-SOF, is in fact, the solution that will ensure security is preserved around the world.”

To date, 17 nations around the world operate the C-130J airlifter.

After intially asking for a fleet >22, settling on 16 because the Long Beach plant was closing, the IAF will finally have to settle with just............one additional C17 to take the fleet up to 11 a/c which means the IAF will absolutely have to find a replacement for the 2o-odd IL-76s that are due to retire in the next 10 years.

GoI has officially made the FMS request for the sole remaining "white tail" currently mothballed by Boeing.

Another defeat from the jaws of victory moment for India.....

So now there is no choice but to ask around and see if any country is willing to sell (likely for a seriously ramped up price). The US has plenty of these, maybe they're willing to part with a few. There are also Arab countries with some of these planes, not like they'd be doing a whole lot with them anyways.

Insurmountable delays , even in the C295W contract.

Ministry of Defence performance is as $hit as it was under Congress.

    0/10 to Modi for this.

If a loss in 1962 and a 26/11 cannot force us to improve, nothing can.
