Porn row: 3 Karnataka Ministers resign

Bowing to the directives of the party's central leadership, three BJP ministers in Karnataka on Wednesday resigned following uproar over their watching pornography during the Assembly proceedings.

Minister for Cooperation Laxman Savadi, Minister for Women and Child Development C.C. Patil and Minister for Ports and Science and Technology Krishna Palemar announced after a meeting with top leaders that they have decided to quit.

A day after the incident caused huge embarrassment to the BJP government, all the three tainted ministers were summoned to the party office. They were asked to submit their resignations after a meeting of the senior leaders presided over by Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

“We don’t want the party and the government to face further embarrassment. All of us have decided to resign from the Ministryâ€, Mr. Savadi told reporters outside the BJP office.

Mr. Savadi and Mr. Patil demanded that the Speaker of the State Assembly K.G. Bopaiah institute a probe into the iincident in which the three ministers were caught on camera watching pornographic video footage during Assembly proceedings. They expressed confidence that “they would come clean from the allegationsâ€.

Mr. Palemar, another minister, who allegedly provided the clips to Mr. Savadi said he was contemplating legal course over the issue.

Under the directions of BJP National President Nitin Gadkari, Mr. Gowda today held a meeting with the state unit Party President K.S. Eswarappa, former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, senior Ministers Jagadish Shettar and Govind Karjol in the party office and decided to ask the three ministers to put in their papers.

Mr. Savadi and Mr. Patil said they would submit their resignation to Mr. Gowda and request him to accept it. They blamed the media for blowing the incident out of proportion.

Mr. Savadi said they were resigning to save the party and the Government from embarrassment. “We will appeal to the Chief Minister, Mr. Yeddyurappa and Mr. Eshwarappa to accept our resignation.

“We will appeal to the Speaker in the Assembly to order an enquiry to uncover the truth. We are ready to face any enquiryâ€, Mr. Savadi said, adding “Media is projecting us as criminals all over the state“.

To a question, Savadi said they are quitting voluntarily and there was no pressure on them to do so.

Mr. Palemar said he did not know how to pass on such clips and that his innocence would be proved in an inquiry. “When there is an allegation, it’s not correct to continue as Ministerâ€, he said. “There is a wrong perception (on the issue) and let there be an inquiry“.

In a bizarre defence, Mr. Savadi had on Tuesday night said the clip showed some men dancing with a woman and then gang-raping her. The rapists were later arrested by the police and then stoned in public, Mr. Savadi said, adding, he was watching it in the context of a discussion on “rave party†(in an island off Udupi) earlier in the Legislative Council.

Better still, you should hear the explanation given by the two. First they implicate a 3rd minister saying he forwarded the clip & then say they were using it to prepare for a discussion on the "rave party" issue.:sarcastic: No shame absolutely.

Sex is completely Normal, infact its sacred. But watching porn is Lust (Kaam). Its got cheapness written all over it. More than action your intentions matter, watching someone naked is not wrong. Bringing Geeta in such topic has important role to expose hypocrisy of so called religious party.

Yes and then tomorrow we will stop woman from driving and then day after tomorrow lets kill someone who falls in love.
Sheer hypocrisy....they are just sex starved peoples..who were doing a right thing at the wrong place.
But the point is that these same peoples send goons to attack discos and speak for protecting puritan views which they have acquired from the colonial masters

Your points are very valid, but there is a basic disagreement there. I don't consider the congress holy or even half as moral as they claim to be, but I believe they are at least interested in keeping up apperances and BJP is not. In a 2G scandal, after public opinion crosses a threshold, congress will at least try to throw raja in jail and try to look like they're 'moral'. But BJP won't even go that length- will stall parliament when there own CM is in a corruption scandal, after stalling pariliament for 2 years consequtively will still try to take kushwaha in etc.

We belong to the land of Kamasutra. Pls tell me one cpl either married or attached who have not watched porn and recreated it together. I know of enough gals who are very young and want role play as rapists or gang bang or sex marathons with multiple guys from all age groups. Infact women in their 30ies are more open abt their sexuality than a man of that age. man suffer from fear of failure to perform, but a women can just move on to another man who can satisfy her.

Watching porn is not bad. 90% of all porn watching is done in offices by men and women together. These guys got caught in Assembly. Whats wrong with that? Cant they have right to pleasure at a place of their choice. What abt freedom of speech and indepense. Kannadigas seem to be very active guys as most scandals abt sex are now coming out of Bangalore just like silicon valley of california.

Watching porn is not bad.But watching porn during work is bad and highly unethical. These ministers are peoples representatives, they are law makers their job is not watching porn but work to solve peoples problems. They receive huge salaries and allowances for it from tax payers money. If they have to watch porn they should do it in their home in privacy not inside legislative assembly.

This same minister some days ago said that woman should not be scandily dressed and then blame for getting raped. The minister is a protector of "Indian Culture". (I highly doubt if anything such as "indian culture" exist or not because it is just a mixture of native culture + islamic + victorian puritan culture)
This has proved the point that your biology cannot be changed and all such talks of this and that is hypocrisy as clear from so many "babas" who everyday get caught in some scandals.

But see the point....when young people do it...then it is in fun time and not in work time..it harms nobody...hence it is not unethical. But ministers like him condemn it. (Rave party on St.Mary Island)
But the very same guys are doing it in work time and that is stupid, perverted and obsession! Its a goddam state assembly!

Irony: They were discussing about the rave-party issue while the ministers were having their own " party " :butcher:

Worthless sand-n*ggers. If you give a monkey an iPhone, he will simply use it as a high-tech instrument to scratch his *ss, because that's always been his main preoccupation in life.

That's what I think of people who do things like this. Anybody who is trying to downplay porn-watching in parliament needs to have their head examined. The ministers caught red-handed are garbage who have sullied the dignity of parliament and insulted the public. They should be charged with public indecency as well. This is unheard of in a democracy, and yet here we are, setting new record lows in political conduct.

The Opposition isn't even a serious opposition anymore. They've all been purchased. There needs to be a new right-wing opposition party, because most of the current opposition just aren't performing. They only want to give the appearance of being an opposition, but meanwhile they've happily and willingly sold out.
