Ukrainian world boxing champion and opposition leader Vitali Klitschko said he would challenge President Viktor Yanukovych in elections due in March 2015.

"What is currently happening in parliament in regards to the law, to which pro-authority deputies are related directly, I want to say that I can not be intimidated or stopped. In order to stop various wild guesses and attempts to get rid of me, I want to say - I am running for president," he said.

The UDAR faction has said that the passing of the bill amending the tax code regarding listing and registering tax payers was a provocation against Klitschko.

"The amendment No. 76 [of People's Deputy Ihor Bryschenko of the Batkivshchyna faction] is aimed against Vitali Klitschko. It is utterly clear: so that there are grounds for some denials in registration," People's Deputy of the UDAR faction Viktor Chumak told reporters.

The law passed has an amendment according to which "in case a person has the right of permanent residence in a foreign country, this individual is considered as not living in Ukraine."

The law on presidential elections has a provision according to which only a person "permanently residing in Ukraine for ten years" can run for the president, Chumak said.

Experts and lawyers say that it is risky to nominate Klitschko for presidency because one of the demands for of a presidential candidate according to the Constitution is his residence in Ukraine for the past ten years prior to election day.

It is known that Klitschko has lived for many years in Ukraine and Germany, where, according to media reports, he has a residence permit.

Lawyers consider the notion of residing in Ukraine based on the decree of the cabinet of ministers on income duty of citizens and law on the Ukrainian citizenship.
