The user trial of Agni-I missile is likely to be carried out from launching complex of the Integrated Test Range(ITR) at the Wheeler Island close to Dhamra off Odisha coast on Friday.Defence sources here said the personnel of user unit of Indian Army have already arrived and the user trial of missile would be carried out by the specially raised unit of the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) with the assistance of the scientists and officers of the DRDO.

The 15 metre tall Agni-1 missile, weighing about 12 tonnes, is a single stage, solid fuel of medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM).

The ballistic missile with a striking range about 700 km has a highly specialised navigation system which ensures it reaches the target with a high degree of accuracy.

The Agni missile is capable of carrying both conventional as well as nuclear warheads of 1 tonne, sources said.
