deflect? Lol, you were talking about the fruits of policies of Congress, I pointed you just in a direction, if we start picking ripe fruits of just one direction(poverty) it will take many years to count those fruits, I wont even dare to bring other sectors.

Got nothing again, no substance pure fluff, this is the condition of supporters of party who ruled 60 years! 0 substance in counter.

This thread is about development of defense equipment and not about poverty of India (which you tried to bring in. Hence my comment of deflection)

Also, Just because I did not give credit to BJP does not mean I gave the credit to Congress.. That was your conclusion and reflects your line of thinking....

I guess we are going offtopic again. This thread is about the uttam radar. Let us take the congress vs NDA discussion on a different thread shall we??
Else hellfire will be all red whenever he comes online....

In the discussions I had with @Abingdonboy , we certainly believe Uttam is our future but for that we have to use LCA as a test bed and we hope in a decade or max 15 years we will be able to have in-house GaN foundries to make a much more advanced radar..

What we need is not just Uttam but a system where Uttam is a part .. a complete sensor fusion and data fusion where we get raw data from the onboard radar, from ground OTH radars which we should deploy and also other allied tracking possibilities in order to make a potent system.. we need smart skin and embedded antenna and sensors in the body to collect and communicate all other possible sources and have enough power of computation to pinpoint hostiles and work in jammed AD environment too..

It's of no use if Uttam cannot detect a 0.1m2 RCS at approx 100km to enable safe engagement of such bogeys within NEZ of our best A2A arsenal.. also without a sensible fusion of sensor and data, we will be behind the curve of development..

So to me personally I would rather give 12-15 years to Uttam AESA and the associated system and target this whole system to be deployed in AMCA.. of course test it out in LCA for sure..But target for deployment in AMCA and not allow AMCA to sport any other radar at all..

In mission mode we can have 5th gen technologies along with GaN in max 7 years .........

In babudom even 15 years are less ............

Yes @Abingdonboy was referring to that news..
It's a welcome addition and IISc is the best place..

But industrial implementation will take more time and hence I was referring to a 12-15 year timeline..

I hope it's quicker than that.. but as said above , babudom delay can make even 15 years look very less..

DRDO's Gallium Nitride (GaN) Based embedded panels and technologies. FB_IMG_1490668550684.jpg FB_IMG_1490668557675.jpg FB_IMG_1490668562957.jpg

DRDO got a breakthrough in Gallium Nitride (GaN). Only USA & Europe have it. And now India too. What makes Gallium Nitride special is because its highly efficient, more powerful than silicon chips and highly resistant to heat. GaN is mainly used in radars to highly improve the performance, as well as Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems and Comms (Communication Devices). Its now guaranteed that HAL AMCA will feature a GaN based AESA Radar.
