Varuna 2015: Stunning images of Indo-French Naval exercise

    India and France began the 10-day naval exercise 'Varuna' on April 23 that saw 12 Rafale fighter jets in action off the Goa coast along with a host of naval assets of both countries.

    During the course, both navies tried to understand each others' strength, and also sync the understanding during the emergency times.

    This was very good week for Indo-French relations. We have a range of cooperation which are moving forward. This time French and Indian Navy are working together,' said French Ambassador Francois Richier.

    Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar witnessed four-hour long naval manoeuvring between Indian Navy and its French counterpart off Goa coast at the concluding day of 'Varuna' exercises.

    The French Navy was represented by the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle while the Indian Navy was represented by aircraft carrier INS Viraat in the exercise.

    Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Vice Admiral SPS Cheema and other senior naval officers were on board aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle on the final day of the sea phase of the exercise.

    The Indian Navy and the French Navy have been conducting naval exercises since 1983 and these exercises were termed 'VARUNA' in 2001.

    The last such exercise was conducted in the Mediterranean Sea in July 2012 off Toulon.
